There is a secret about babies that nobody really tells you. Sure, they vaguely mention that babies need a lot of sleep and can’t last long between naps in the early days, but you just sort of nod and smile, assuming that means they have a couple of naps a day, because you’re too consumed with thoughts about breast pumps and buggy folding mechanisms and tiny little socks to focus on something as boring as sleep. But here’s the thing…
YOUR BABY GETS TIREDER THAN YOU EVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE.
Are they crying for no reason? You’ve checked their nappy, adjusted the room temperature, fed them, winded them, sung 18 mind-numbing rounds of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and yet still they wail?
But they only woke up 20 minutes ago?
T H E Y ’ R E T I R E D .
But… they don’t seem tired? Just kind of… angry and hysterical?
THAT IS ALMOST CERTAINLY BECAUSE THAT BEAUTIFUL BABY OF YOURS IS OVERTIRED.
Seriously, we really wish someone had told us this sooner. So as a random act of kindness before the madness starts, we’re telling you. THAT BABY IS BLOODY KNACKERED, MAKE IT GO TO SLEEP*.
*You have to work out how to do this bit yourself though, soz.
